Who is this Vesper Stamper person?

Vesper means “evening prayer”, but my parents named me after a James Bond girl–the original Bond girl, Vesper Lynd, who was James’ first–and maybe only–love, from the book Casino Royale. She was loyal to Bond even to death. Well, I suppose both namesakes are worth pursuing. (And Eva Green did a pretty good job playing…me.)
As a child, I trained myself in the school of Hilary Knight, in the wee hours when I would copy page after page of his Cinderella in painstaking detail. Everything I did was filtered through wandering eyes; every leaf of every tree; ubiquitous graffiti in pre-Giuliani Manhattan, the beauty marks on my mother’s face.
I set off to art school at the tender age of 13, always knowing that I’d travel through life with a paintbrush in my hand. It was at LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and Performing Arts in New York City that I discovered new worlds in children’s book illustration and theatrical scene design. After a year at North Carolina School of the Arts studying Scene Design, I was driven back into the arms of my mother City and earned my BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design in 1998.
Since then, I’ve been illustrating and designing for everything from sneakers and motor oil to midwives and musicians, stirring up the muse with my band, Ben + Vesper, and making all sorts of handwork on Etsy.

Vesper’s colorful work stirs my imagination with its folksy humanity, and it’s always a pleasure to work with her professionally. I was so impressed with her as a contracted illustrator that I selected her to illustrate my tattoo! Jason Robinson (Beautymark Design Studio)
Vesper Stamper’s professionalism and calm demeanor makes everyone who works with her feel at ease. She has always thoroughly followed through on all the job assignments we have asked her to fulfill and has created a wondrous art design that exceeded our expectations. We regularly receive comments from prospective and attending parents that they applied to our daycare because of the attractive website with Vesper’s designs and artwork. We continue to work with her because she is professional and artful in everything she does! Thank you, Vesper! Cassie and Lauren, owners of Foundations Prep School, Bloomfield, NJ

I sent Vesper Stamper two photographs of my home and she accurately and beautifully rendered it in ink. The drawing captured the photographs well and she was very prompt and helpful. The drawing made a lovely Christmas present for my wife! Joseph Hedden
